Participation in Amgen Teach programme: National training and the 15th Science Projects Workshop in the Future Classroom Lab
Giovanna is an Italian science teacher, who has recently joined the Amgen Teach Community.
When asked about how Amgen Teach has enhanced her confidence and ability to use inquiry-based science education in her classroom, she explains, "I used materials from the Amgen Teach training to explain bout genetics plus old and new biotechnology. The inquiry-based stimulated good team work among my students, where they monitored the processes and met the associated deadlines."
Giovanna also says that her students found this approach more motivating. "They were divided into small groups and tasked with solving some problems. They followed the scientific method, monitoring all the different steps and explaining the procedures. IBSE stimulated their curiosity, supported their ability to solve problems and ignited their passion for learning."
Currently, her students are engaged in various projects, where Giovanna can use the IBSE approach, because as she points out, "I like to challenge the students to use critical observation and analytical thinking as well as considering alternative explanations. That way, students improve their ability to learn new methods and technologies."
